LETTER #39
Dr. Axel Meierhoefer, Financial Guide, Real Estate Investor, former Airforce Aviator, & Expert Gardener
Merry Christmas Eve to all who celebrate—and I know Axel does. I know this because I saw him yesterday in his little Zoom box wearing a jaunty Santa hat expertly balanced on his head—his standard wire-rimmed glasses and perfectly trimmed grey moustache he wears every day along with his characteristic stoic expression made him look a bit like a serious St. Nick who decided the beard was much too unruly to manage anymore.
I met Axel ten weeks ago through a workshop he was co-teaching with TeriLeigh from The Creator Retreat called The Abundant Money Mindset. The tagline to the workshop is absolutely what was delivered: “Where vision boards meet investment accounts and spiritual alignment becomes real financial stability.” TeriLeigh took care of the woo-woo portion—you know, the portion that I can really lean into comfortably at this point—and Axel delivered the practicalities with calm clarity and without judgment. I was able to talk about my financial situation—which is messier than my Love Lab—and get specific, concrete actions I can take to better manage my finances and also heal some of the stories I have about myself and my relationship to money.
As part of the workshop, I got to have a one-on-one meeting with Axel where we discussed ways to promote my playshops and talked about the “job market” as it relates to my 23-year-old kiddo who is trying to figure out how to support himself in an economy that looks nothing like it looked when I graduated college in 1986. Axel was thoughtful, informative, and kind.
When I first saw Axel on the screen and heard him present, I felt a knowing. He’s German, just like my step-dad, and has a very similar affect. I could hear Herbert’s dry sense of humor through Axel. He’s also a world citizen—he’s lived in the US and now resides in Spain. That’s my family story as well—we’re nomads and temporary ex-pats. The military part is nothing I’m familiar with—and the fact that he loves to grow flowers just adds to the complexity of this enigma of a person that is Axel. The other beautiful thing about my connection with him is that we are around the same age, I’m going to guess within a year or two, and the way we navigate the world is so very different and yet I feel an understanding between us just due to our shared generational experiences.
So here’s to Axel—serious St. Nick without the unruly beard, teaching a witch in a lab coat that financial stability and spiritual alignment aren’t opposites. They’re just two sides of the same abundant life we’re all trying to build.
Sidenote: Is it as weird to you as it is to me that TeriLeigh has two co-instructors and one of them is Alex and the other is Axel?

I do have two partners. Axel and Alex. and do you know how many times a weekI mix up their names? Thankfully, they are both very gracious and know what I mean.
Axel is a very blessed soul, and a special kind of character, to have received TWO analog letters from your program so far!
did I mention that Axel sends me a photograph of a flower from his garden or nearby park every day? Not exactly the staunch and stoic military type underneath that Santa hat. He's a special one.
